The BAD (Bay Area Drag) Fund, a mutual aid fund for drag artists in the Bay Area, has been launched.
Did you recently turn down a gig in order to stand in solidarity with Palestine but were depending on that income? If so, the BAD Fund* is for you.
A fiscally sponsored project of Oaklash, A SF Bay Area Drag Festival, The BAD Fund aims to be in support of drag artists who withdraw their labor in solidarity with Palestine, providing more financial security for those who are not aligning themselves with oppressors.
Four successful applicants will be randomly selected and receive $250. Funds are planned for release in early January.
Applicants who also identify as QTBIPOC2S will be prioritized by ensuring at least 70% of available funds are held for applicants who identify as such.
Longer term, the fund plans to serve as a place where we supporters can all drop spare dollars in for moments when community members need a hand. For example, this funds hopes to help support financially precarious drag performers wanting to withdraw labor from gigs that are funded by unsafe producers with unsafe lineups, for folks needing support with medical funds etc.
